Harbor@Home Summer 2020 Weekly Themes

Session 1 (6/15 – 6/19): Brick by Brick
From daily design challenges to painting with bricks, children will explore the wonderful world of LEGO during this amazing first session.
Interdisciplinary activities will focus on engineering, design thinking, and artistic expression.

Session 2 (6/22- 6/26): Clue Me In 
Calling all detectives! Do you have what it takes to follow the clues? Children will plunge into a Harbor@Home mystery while they learn about collecting fingerprints, cracking codes, and using their problem-solving skills.
Interdisciplinary activities will focus on making inferences, cryptography, and scientific exploration.

Session 3 (6/29 – 7/3): We Can Be Heroes 
Up, up, and away! Children will create their own hero persona, complete with a costume, in this super third session. Our young heroes will then have the opportunity to star in their own short comic.
Interdisciplinary activities will focus on character development, design, and storytelling.

Session 4 (7/6 – 7/10): I Am A Scientist
Grab your lab coats and get ready for some fun, hands-on science and design projects! Children will observe, discover, imagine, and create while learning the basics of the scientific method.
Interdisciplinary activities will focus on observation, discovery, and the basics of the scientific method.

Session 5 (7/13 – 7/17): Game On
You sunk my Battleship! Children will not only design and build their own physical board games in this exciting summer session, but they will also explore how to create simple video games using Scratch Jr.
Interdisciplinary activities will focus on coding, making, and critical thinking.

Session 6 (7/20 – 7/24): Wild Things
Embrace your sense of wonder! Children will explore animals and plants through both scientific observation and artistic representation. Learn to log what you see from your window, in your backyard, or a nearby natural area.
Interdisciplinary activities will focus on nature, environmental conservation, and mindfulness.

Session 7 (7/27 – 7/31): Go For the Gold 
While the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo have been postponed, Harbor@Home is still holding its special week of sports. Children will design uniforms and participate in daily movement challenges.
Interdisciplinary activities will focus on teamwork, physical fitness, and design.

Session 8 (8/3 – 8/7): Code Sweet Home
Children will have the opportunity for both unplugged and computer-based coding as they connect blocks to give instructions. As an added bonus, participants will design simple Rube Goldberg machines to perform a simple task at home.
Interdisciplinary activities will focus on making, coding, and simple machines.

Session 9 (8/10 – 8/14): Play Time
This awesome session gives our young thespians a chance to shine! Children will create simple sets and costumes at home as they “stage” a wonderful Zoom production for friends and family.
Interdisciplinary activities will focus on imaginative thinking, storytelling, and drama.

Refunds:
If you have already registered for Camp Harbor, please email Program Director, Seth Fangboner, to transfer your credit to the Harbor@Home Summer Fun program, or request a refund.
A $50.00, non-refundable registration fee is included as part of the weekly tuition for each new registration made after May 22, 2020. These fees will not be returned should a student withdraw from the program.
Refund requests must be made in writing prior to May 31, 2020.
