Dear Harbor Families, A few years ago, who would have imagined a virtual Back to School Night? Or a Zoom Talent Show? The virtual format has allowed us to maintain connection as a community in new ways, and I am grateful for that. In fact, for some purposes, like parent/teacher conferences, I think the virtual format offers a better experience - even once we are through the pandemic. (No more having to leave your office/home mid-day to drive to school for a 20 minute meeting!) But Zoom social hours? It was better than nothing for sure, but I am not a fan. The virtual format just doesn't replace the experience of connecting with a group of people in person. This is why Andrea and I are thrilled to be hosting monthly outdoor parent coffees this year, to spend time together getting to know one another, and to connect around topics of importance to our community. On Tuesday morning after drop off, please join us for a chance to informally gather, and to learn more about our goals and planning around topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Harbor. We will be joined by members of our DEI Committee representing the faculty and Board of Trustees, who will add their perspectives on how our goals intersect with our mission and classroom and community experiences. Once you drop your child off at the car line, just park in the front lot and walk toward the first set of doors to the synagogue. You'll see us there, with a welcoming smile and a hot cup of joe!
Warm regards,
Leah Musico
