SEE YOU LATER, ALLIGATOR!
June 9, 2022

Dear Harbor Families,

In our last all-school morning meeting of the school year, earlier this week, we asked students to share some of their favorite Harbor memories from the year. Students shared many happy memories, including Spiral projects, our experience raising chicks, Wednesday night bedtime stories, Harborween and the Talent Show, and the recent grade three boat trip with Living Classrooms - to name a few.

As parents, our memories of the year may be a little different. Starting with Delta and into Omicron, we maintained strong COVID-19 protocols, managing to keep transmission out of the building while bringing back important community events in-person - including the auction, parenting sessions, and in-class visits. Slowly and intentionally, we were able to safely move COVID-19 into the background, while reevaluating the format of all-school events and brought our entire Harbor community together more than we have been able to in recent years.

Working with our DEI consultant, our DEI committee worked toward our equity and inclusion goals, including conceiving of and leading a successful first annual Celebration of Culture. Teachers developed and taught interdisciplinary, inquiry-based units across the grade levels, engaging students in meaningful hands-on projects. Not to mention, we conducted a full self-study and hosted a visiting committee from the Association of Maryland Independent Schools for our re-accreditation. Whew!

Looking ahead to the final days of the school year, we can’t wait to see many of you at our end of year celebration on Tuesday at 5 PM - scroll down for more information about the event! And finally, just a few reminders in these last few days of school:

  • Please mark your calendars for the afternoon of July 14th for an opportunity to come together as a community for a picnic and some time together on our playground.
  • We still have limited space at Camp Harbor -  sign up for sessions online, and direct any questions to Camp Director Seth Fangboner.
  • Finally, if you haven't yet, please help us to reflect on the school year by completing our annual parent survey, facilitated by our Board of Trustees. We use this data explicitly to set school goals - and appreciate your feedback!

Wishing you a wonderful summer full of special time with family and friends, both adventurous and restful. We look forward to seeing you again very soon!

Warmly,

Leah Musico
Head of School
