Dear Harbor Families,
It was such a pleasure seeing so many of you at Friday morning’s Celebration of Culture! The students did a beautiful job performing songs and dances from different cultures, the community drum circle was invigorating, and the all school songs, “Lovely Day” and “What a Wonderful World”, brought some (including me) to tears. :) The performances, inspired by authentic sharing of family and faculty cultures represented our DEI philosophy of “our differences enrich us” in a beautiful, and a “very Harbor” way!
Following the performances, students and their families went to the classrooms to share their family culture projects. Each presentation offered a unique glimpse into the traditions, customs, and values that make up the tapestry of our diverse community. It was heartwarming to see students embrace, and proudly share, their culture with their classmates and teachers.
Community members were also invited to add their self portrait to a collective mosaic that once completed will spell out the word UNIQUE, which describes each individual and our community as a whole! If you have not yet added your tile to the mosaic, please do so next time you are in the building!
Special thanks to the entire DEI Committee, particularly Yuki Wilson and Jasmina Hinton who coordinated the morning’s performances. The students performed with confidence and pride! Thank you also to all the families who contributed to making this day so special - your enthusiasm and willingness to share what makes your family unique helped make this day an enriching experience for all!
Warm regards,
Leah Musico
