Dear Harbor Families,
A few years ago (after a year of keeping our doors closed to families as we carefully managed a safe in-person school during the COVID pandemic - what a challenge!) we found ourselves looking for creative ways to welcome families - finally! - back into the building. We came up with a novel, but simple, idea to open our classroom doors for family visits.
Since then, our Open Classrooms events have been consistently a favorite experience for Harbor families. The opportunity to spend time in your child’s classroom during regular learning time is so meaningful and special, and gives families a peek into students’ classroom experience - in addition to class newsletters and Seesaw photo posts.
In the first six weeks of school, teachers have worked with their students to carefully and intentionally develop structured, warm classroom communities, following a responsive classroom approach. We are excited to welcome families into classrooms tomorrow morning to experience the classroom environments and morning routines. (Preschool 2/3s and Grade One families had the opportunity to visit today, since the teachers will have substitutes tomorrow.)
As with other Family Fridays, please park in the front lot after morning drop off, and we’ll invite you upstairs to the Chesapeake Room for coffee for a few minutes as the students arrive and settle in. Teachers look forward to welcoming you and facilitating a deeper sense of connection with your child’s classroom experience!
Speaking of community connections, we encourage you to register now for our annual Harbor Community Picnic at Smokey Glen Farm on September 27th, from 12-3 PM! The event is a wonderful way to connect with other families and enjoy a beautiful fall day on the farm. The menu of BBQ chicken, baked beans, potato salad, a salad bar, and other treats - as well as a delicious spread of homemade pies - is delectable! Families will enjoy hayrides, face painting, and group games such as a sack race, tug of war, mini golf, and kickball, to name a few. It’s a not-to-be-missed event!
We are looking forward to connecting with you very soon!
Warm regards,
Leah Musico
