Dear Harbor Families,
I’ve been working on changing my vocabulary from describing my life as “busy” to describing it as “full”. On days when it feels like there is too much, that subtle change of perspective reminds me of how lucky I am to have a life full of wonderful relationships, work that I love, and fulfilling experiences for my children and family.
At Harbor, the fall season, and particularly October and November, are certainly “full”! Between the recent Smokey Glen event, Harborween this morning, and next week’s PJ Party, our community has so many wonderful chances to connect!
It was a pleasure to see many of you at Smokey Glen Farm last week. Between the delicious food, hayrides, minigolf, and face painting - and the gorgeous weather - it was a day to remember! Thank you to Alex Morison for running two rousing games of tug-o-war (renamed “tug-o-peace") - one with adults and one with children. The Harbor mascot, Sailor the dog - not to be confused with our real school dog Archer - made an appearance (that was my husband Bill under the costume)! And, did you have the chance to taste the pies? Yummy!
This morning, we enjoyed another favorite Harbor tradition - Harborween! The joy and excitement for the day was palpable, and the costumes in our parade were awesome! As has been the case for many years, our preschool and JK students made their own costumes and surprised their parents, and showed so much pride in the parade. Under the guidance of our wonderful music teacher Ms. Wilson (dressed as Cleopatra!), the students shared songs with their families, and we all enjoyed outdoor class parties. Many thanks to HSFA President Nicole Moore and her team of room parents and volunteers for making this morning so special for all!
Which brings me to next week… We are excited to welcome back Paper Pie for the second year as our fall book fair vendor. The book fair will be set up in the hallway by the Harbor arrival/dismissal area, and will be open throughout the week before and after school. We still have a few slots for volunteers, so please email us at hsfa@theharborschool.org if you can help either from 8:30-9:00 or between 3:00 and 5:00 on Tuesday and Wednesday. Our PJ Party will take place outdoors in the space by the Harbor arrival/dismissal area, and will include a bake sale organized by preschool parent Lindsay Miniaci, s’mores kits and fire pits, and a special guest author who will be reading her book to the kids! The event will start at 5:30; feel free to pick up dinner on the way and bring camp chairs or blankets.
If that’s not enough “fullness” (notice I didn’t say “busy”!), the students have Spirit Week next week to promote our Book Fair. We’ll kick off the week with Character Day on Monday - see below for a full list of the days. Please know that participation is optional, as we just had a costume day today!
Enjoy the long weekend and rest up for next week!
Warm regards,
Leah Musico
