IT’S SPIRAL NIGHT!
February 20, 2025

Dear Harbor Families,

Over the past seven years, I’ve had the privilege of hearing—and helping to shape—so many stories about how the Harbor experience has profoundly impacted students’ educational journeys. Our preschool-through-third-grade model is intentionally designed with research-based understanding of these developmental years, providing a small, personalized, and responsive foundation that prepares students for the intermediate and middle school years ahead. (Psst… if you haven’t yet, be sure to complete the re-enrollment agreement by tomorrow’s deadline!)

One of the most cherished traditions at Harbor, and a perfect example of our inquiry-based, interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning, is Spiral Night. Year after year, the Spiral experience fosters deep learning, collaboration, and a sense of accomplishment. The Spiral theme creates lasting memories and nurtures a love of learning. It truly is a special experience!

Tonight is the night! Whether it’s your first or sixth Spiral Night, we hope you’ll take in every moment as your child proudly shares their projects and discoveries with you. Expect to see a wide array of creative projects representing our theme of “Harbor Takes Flight”, from painting and printmaking to stop-motion animation, cardboard constructions, and mobiles. In the older grades, students have also engaged in research and writing on topics of personal interest. This is a night to celebrate the heart of the Harbor experience—collaboration, creativity, and student agency—all on full display!

A few tips to make tonight even more special:

  • Have your child wear their Spiral t-shirt!
  • Arrive at 6 PM for a community gathering. We’ll have interactive activities, a personalized “boarding pass” for your child, and reflections on the Spiral journey before heading upstairs.
  • Let your child be your guide! Ask them thoughtful questions like:
    • What was the most challenging part of this project, and how did you work through it?
    • What’s something new you learned?
    • What was fun about collaborating with others? What was tricky?

And tomorrow morning, we hope you will join us for our next Family Friday - Coffee and Connections -sponsored by our DEI Committee! We are excited to welcome back Ashley Nartey, who has worked with our teachers in the fall, and again this past Friday. Join us for a meaningful discussion on the topic of neurodiversity and how, as parents, we can approach conversations about our unique ways we learn differently with our children.

We can’t wait to see you tonight, and again tomorrow morning!

Warmly,

Leah Musico
