Dear Harbor Families,

As we finish week three of distance learning at Harbor, we have begun to settle into somewhat of a rhythm. At school, we have developed systems for communications with faculty and families, morning meetings have a sense of routine, and Seesaw is beginning to (hopefully) feel a bit more manageable. It's strange, but not surprising, I suppose, that something so unexpected can become somewhat routined in just a few weeks.

I keep hearing people call this the "new normal", and have even used the term myself at times. Quite honestly, I find it uncomfortable to say, and even more uncomfortable to think about. I miss you all immensely. I miss the easy interaction that being together brings, instead of worrying about whether I'm muted or not, or what is going on in the background of my screen!

That said, there are silver linings too. I'm grateful to be able to see and connect with neighbors walking past our house. I'm really glad that the weather is nice! I am enjoying - most of the time :). - the extra time with my kids. Most of all, I am grateful for my family's and friends' health and safety, even while concern for those who are sick floods my mind.

We are social beings. We need to connect. And at Harbor, we care about each other. A lot. As YOUR community, we are looking for ways to make that connection happen for your kids - and also for you. I am certain we all understand the incredible importance of social/emotional well-being during this time, for ourselves and for our children. Connection during this time looks different, but is absolutely necessary.

It has been wonderful to see so many of you for bedtime stories with the faculty, and to see the kids' involvement in and excitement about Spirit Week. The students and teachers have enjoyed seeing each other live in daily morning meetings this week, as well as in their individual meetings. And, we have a few other ideas up our sleeves to continue to encourage these important connections. For example, two Parent Coffees will take place next week; we hope you will consider joining Andrea and me at one or both!

And tonight, we will come together for our first all-community event since this "new normal" began. We look forward to seeing everyone in less than two hours for what is sure to be a memorable and fun Harbor's Got Talent!
