A Letter from Andrea Zuraf, Assistant Head and Director of Admissions and Marketing
Dear Harbor Families,
As you have likely heard by now (because we clearly cannot stop talking about it!) we are celebrating The Harbor School’s 50th anniversary this year! This will be a year-long celebration, within the school walls with our current students, faculty, and families, and in wider community events where we are looking forward to reconnecting and celebrating with alumni families and former faculty members as well.
You may have also heard that I have been at Harbor longer than anyone else on the current staff. Whenever people ask how long I have worked at Harbor, which is 22 years, I explain why: I love this school and its mission, and I love the community of learners, teachers, leaders, and families. I can’t imagine a more warm and welcoming place to work! Although my tenure reminds me of my age, working in a joyful, creative and supportive environment also keeps you young!
Since starting at Harbor, I have worked with many different colleagues, heads of school, board members, and families, but there has been a consistent through line of professionals with a shared mission and passion for creating a safe and nurturing environment where young children can learn, grow, and thrive. I sometimes forget that my colleagues have not been here as long as me, since they are such dedicated drivers of Harbor’s mission.
Our first celebratory event is just over 2 weeks away- the Community Picnic at Smokey Glen Farm on October 15. We have not held the picnic over the past few years, but it is one of my favorite Harbor traditions! I have also heard from alumni families who shared memories of the sack races, hayrides, delicious chicken and pies, exploring the creek and meadow, and even having a blast jumping in puddles at one particularly rainy picnic! *Fear not- there is a covered pavilion area for those averse to puddle jumping.
We can’t wait to see you at Smokey Glen! If you have any questions, let us know, and don’t forget to register, so we can ensure we have the right amount of food and supplies. We look forward to sharing this beloved tradition with new Harbor families, who will no doubt have just as much fun as we did in the past!
All the best,
Andrea Zuraf
