WHAT A YEAR!
June 5, 2025

Dear Harbor Families,

The end of the school year brings opportunities for reflection and celebration - for a year of growth and so many successes! This year has been marked by the many deep connections that we have made as a community - with each other, and with learning - and it has been an honor to be able to witness your children’s great strides towards being kind, capable, and confident learners throughout the year! We have such a wonderful group of children at Harbor, and we are grateful to you for trusting us with their education.

As reflective practitioners, we would like to hear from each of you about your experience at Harbor, so we can continue to improve our practices. I know this is a very busy time of year, but we would be so grateful if you would offer your feedback, ideas, and suggestions via our annual family survey. We use the data from our survey to influence changes and improvements to our school operations and program. Please share your thoughts with us by Wednesday if you haven't yet - and many thanks to those of you who have already responded!

This summer, we have several exciting plans in store for Harbor! Thanks to the generous donations and support of so many of you through the Raise the Paddle at this year’s Gala, we are thrilled to be upgrading the Chesapeake Room and Faculty Room this summer! Our plans are in their final stages of development and include cabinets for storage and a cleaner look, and large new screen and feel in our multipurpose room, a new deep sink with cabinetry in our faculty room, and improved sensory spaces for students throughout the school.

In addition, our teachers will be busy this summer with several opportunities for professional development. Four teachers are attending WISSIT, the Washington International Summer Institute for Teachers, exploring the research coming out of Project Zero at Harvard’s School of Education. Teachers will also be attending training in Orton Gillingham multisensory reading instruction, and workshops in Positive Discipline. It is sure to be a summer of learning, and unwinding from a busy school year.

We hope to see you at a mid-summer Community Open Playground event on July 10th at 4 PM - to connect with Harbor friends and faculty/staff. One thing that is clearly missing from our summer plans is Camp Harbor. While we are disappointed not to be hosting a camp this summer and will miss seeing your students, we are already looking ahead - planning is underway for an exciting new summer camp experience for our younger learners in 2026!

In our last few days of school, students will be coming home with classroom materials, their beautiful class albums (if you ordered one), and big smiles ready for summer! Please also keep your eyes open for our annual magazine, The Harbor View, which is going to print tomorrow (in-house), and details some of the highlights of the school year. We hope you enjoy reading about the many connections we have made as a community!

Warmly,

Leah Musico
Head of School
