PARTNERING FOR STUDENT GROWTH

A Letter from Christina Dabulskis, Learning and Literacy Specialist

Dear Harbor Families,

There is something inspiring, almost magical, about the beginning of the school year. The new bulletin boards, classroom libraries set up waiting for new readers to dive in, the fresh school supplies, and the excitement and buzz for what will come in the new school year, whether it’s our students entering preschool for the first time or our seasoned third graders, getting ready to begin their final year here at Harbor, it is all so exciting!

Over the years, I’ve experienced the start of the school year through many different lenses, as a parent, a classroom teacher, an assistant principal, and now as a learning and literacy specialist. I have to say, this may be my favorite perspective yet! In this role, I get to follow students as they grow, watching their progress while partnering with teachers and families along the way. I have the privilege of getting to know students in new ways each year, and that continues well beyond September, it’s something I get to do all year long.  What does my role look like at Harbor? Essentially, I support students, teachers, and families so that every child has the tools they need to be successful.

With students, you’ll find me working in small groups to strengthen reading, writing, or math skills. For those who need more structured support, I collaborate with classroom teachers on developing Learning Support Plans which provide a snapshot of the student’s strengths, goals, and strategies to support, in an easy to follow way for teachers and families.

With teachers, I collaborate on lessons and share strategies for differentiation, making sure instruction meets the needs of learners at all levels. I also guide teachers through assessments, helping us track progress and identify both strengths and areas for growth. With faculty, I provide professional development during meetings so teachers have practical tools to apply in their classrooms.

Through all of this, communication with you is at the heart of it. I see my role as a point of connection between families, teachers, and specialists to ensure everyone is aligned with the supports in place for the students. I partner with you directly whether you are looking to coordinate scheduling services for your child with an outside specialist or when you have questions about assessments and next steps. I want you to feel informed and included throughout your child’s learning journey.

Thank you for letting me be part of your child’s learning, I am looking forward to a successful school year of growth and learning! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at christina_dabulskis@theharborschool.org

Warm regards,
